Car Fire North 3rd Street

Car Fire North 3rd Street

On Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 5:15 p.m. Jefferson Fire District was dispatched to a structure fire at 420 N 3rd St, Jefferson, Oregon.  An engine crew arrived on scene and saw that a vehicle and carport were fully engulfed in flames.  The carport was attached to a manufactured home that fire was spreading to.  They requested 2nd alarm immediately.

Dispatch received several calls from neighbors stating a vehicle and carport were on fire and they could hear several explosions at the above listed address.  According to eyewitnesses a woman who had been staying at the house was seen leaving the van and house just after the first explosion.  Later Oregon State Police were able to contact her and she stated her friends were working on her van, they drained gas with a fuel pump.  Later she started the vehicle and was letting it warm up so she could leave, heard an explosion and saw flames.  The home is listed as being vacant however several neighbors stated that the house has had squatters living there.  Just recently they have seen people working on the vehicle under the carport at all hours of the night.  The fire had done some damage to the adjoining manufactured home.  Firefighters kept the fire from spreading to a duplex right next to the van and carport.

The fire was deemed under control at 5:42 p.m.  The cause of the fire is due to faulty automotive repair.  There were no injuries.  Albany, Marion, and Turner were dispatched to assisted on the call.  They were all returned before arriving.
